"Every variety has challenges. Some like Broken, Castor and Black have a lot of breeders and in order to be competitive you must have animals of excellent type, fur and color. You can't be a wimp and try to keep mediocre animals just because they are your favorite pet. Others do not have a lot of followers and finding competitive stock to start with is hard and requires very strict culling to become competitive. Then the rare varieties have little or no competition and frequently judges cannot correctly recognize the color and a lot of poor specimens get legs . Selection of a variety to raise depends on your goals. Do you want to be successful in strong large classes or do you want to win classes with no competition, or do you want to work to gain recognition for excellence with a rare variety? Each path has many challenges and many frustrations."
